Double Cleansing your Skin– Is it good?
Most of us are investing our time researching for a skincare routine that will really help our skin these days. We are into buying luxurious skincare products or any trending products that we know can really help our skin to be healthier, smooth, and glowing.
However, before applying any of those skincare products to our skin, we have to always go back to the basic and the most important part of a daily skincare routine which is cleansing. And recently, we have been introduced to a new method of cleansing which is– Double Cleansing.
What is Double Cleansing?
It is exactly what you have in mind, cleansing your face twice but with 2 different cleansers. It is starting with an oil-based cleanser followed by a water-based cleanser.
Double Cleansing gets rid of the grime that sits on top of your skin such as oil, dirt, makeup, and dead skin cells. It is advisable to use for people who put on a lot of sunscreen (which everyone should) and those who wear makeup every day. This is also for people who live in an area with a polluted climate since it can cause havoc on your skin.
Steps to Double Cleanse:
Use an Oil-based Cleanser
Wash your face first with an oil-based cleanser to remove makeup, dirt, excess oil, SPF, and other unwanted residues on your skin. Massage your cleanser into your face before rinsing it with lukewarm water.
Use a Water-based Cleanser
Wash your face with a water-based cleanser to thoroughly cleanse your skin. Do not rinse it immediately, take at least a minute or two to cleanse your face with a water-based cleanser to ensure that your skin will absorb the ingredients and benefits of your cleanser. Make sure that your cleanser is the right one for the skin type that you have.
What are the benefits of Double Cleansing?
- It makes sure to get rid of the residues that can cause breakouts. So, you’ll have cleaner skin before going to bed and can avoid inflammation when you wake up.
- It can help your skincare products to work better because your pores are unclogged it can deeply penetrate your skin making the products more effective.
- It helps your skin cells to regenerate at night since it has been cleaned well. It can also brighten any dullness, ultimately lifting the complexion.
Should you do it every day?
Actually, it depends on the lifestyle that you have. It is not necessary for all skin types and people who will benefit a lot from it are those who wear heavy makeup every day and those who have an oily skin type.
Tips for double cleansing based on your skin type:
Oily Skin
Start with an oil-based cleanser or balm that is designed for an oily type of skin and for the second part of cleansing, use cleansers with salicylic acid or a foaming face wash.
Sensitive and Dry Skin
Double cleansing can make your skin drier and irritated that's why you have to use cleansers that are gentle, hydrating, calming, and fragrance-free. Stick with micellar water as it can gently remove oil, dirt, and makeup on your skin before proceeding with the facial cleanser that is suited for your skin for double-cleansing.
Combination Skin
If you’re oily in some areas and dry, you have a combination type of skin so make sure to pair product cleansers that will remove excess oil but don’t dry out your skin. You can use gel cleansers or hydrating cleansers that are gentle on your skin.
Remember…
You should only double cleanse at night, it is not necessary to do it once you wake up in the morning. Overdoing it can cause harm rather than be beneficial to your skin and always choose the right cleansers for your skin type.
