Winter can be a challenging season not just for your skin but for your lips too. This is one of the inconveniency that people experience even those who love the winter season.
The combination of cold air and chilling wind outside — and dry, heated air inside — all conspire to make your lips dry and tight.
The skin on your lips is very thin and delicate, it is not like the skin that’s on your face and body.
Here are some tips on how to protect your lips this winter season
Don’t lick your lips
Most people who experienced chapped lips are lip lickers. Most people are tempted to lick their lips when they feel that it is dry however it is not good to do since licking can remove the oily surface film that protects the lips from losing moisture, leading to lips cracking.
Apply lip balms
This will help to lock in moisture and heal cracks and split skins. However, make sure that your lip balm does not contain camphor, eucalyptus, and menthol--these can soothe your lips but can dry your lips.
Look for lip balms that contain petrolatum, essential oils, or glycerin. Be sure to apply lip balm before you go to bed every night.
Exfoliate your lips
Make sure to gently exfoliate your lips to remove dry and flaky skin from the surface. It will help to absorb the lip moisturizer that you will apply to make your lips hydrated and healthy.
These are just simple tips but will definitely help you to deal with chapped lips this winter season. But remember not to pick or bite any flaky skin, as doing so can slow down the healing process. Also, wear your scarf over your lips to protect your lips delicate skin.
