Your Skin Is Purging? Don’t Panic!
What is skin purging?
It actually refers to the skin's reaction to an active ingredient that is increasing skin cell turnover rate. It means your skin is adjusting to a new product that you are using.
Is skin purging a good sign?
Some of us may panic when we use a new product and suddenly a lot of pimples appear on our face, we’re having blackheads or whiteheads and may think that the product is not good at all-but when your skin is purging it means that the product is effective. So, don’t panic and keep using the product.
How long will my skin purge?
It takes one skin cycle or 28 days; some dermatologist says that it may take 4 to 6 weeks. When you’re purging for more than 6 weeks then it will be best to consult your dermatologist.
What products can cause purging?
Most likely that will be products that have an active ingredient that increases skin turnover like retinoids, hydroxy acids, benzoyl peroxide, and other exfoliants. Products without these ingredients won't be able to cause purging.
What should I do if my skin is purging?
Honestly, you just have to WAIT. To make it less irritating- avoid popping/picking any inflammation, make sure that your pillowcase is always clean, and use sunscreen when going out because purging makes the skin sensitive when it is exposed to the sun.
So, remember, when your skin is purging it means that the skincare is effective. That’s why the next time you experience it, do not ditch immediately the product and don’t panic!
